Just dreaming yourself in those beautiful tea gardens in Sylhet, on those high hills, instantly brings peace to you. The heavenly aroma of the tea leaves, the breeze playing with your hair and that undisturbed silence on the hills is an experience of a lifetime. VENTURE is grateful for having the opportunity to visit the tea gardens of Sylhet, Bangladesh. Let us share our magnificent trip in Sylhet with you!
Sylhet is one of the eight divisions of the country and probably attracts tourists the most. Many go there to witness the feeling of having a stroll in the tea gardens and to try the “Shaat-Rong-er Cha” (Seven Colour Tea). Airways, buses, and taxis are available and are quite safe for your journey to Sylhet. Buses might prove to be chaotic or maybe not air-conditioned every time, and it might be tiring driving all the way. Therefore it is more reliable to travel by air. Sylhet is not such a developed city but it is growing. For this reason, you will have to have everything done beforehand, like your journey from the airport to your booked hotel. You may ask the hotel to arrange for a transport.
Sylhet has many hotels and resorts to serve its tourists. Since the place is famous for tea gardening from the British-colonial rule, your eyes will be blessed to see the breathtaking scene just outside your room’s window. It is absolutely amazing to see such views of nature. It’s all green – lush green hills, the sun rising in the blue sky. To be honest, seeing those pictures from the net is nowhere to the feeling that one has when she is seeing it through her own sight. Many villas, on top of hills, just a few metres away from the tea garden, are available. Villas, guesthouses and resorts on the hills are best for those who are nature-lovers. Resorts like The Palace and Dusai, are best for those who are both nature-lovers and those who want to be facilited with other activities, like spa. Expenses depend on the demand and rating of these places. Therefore, always check those sites like tripadvisor to plan according to your budget.
The tea gardens have both men and women, and even children sometimes, working hard on bringing the best flavour and scent of the tea leaves. Many groups who come to visit the place often end up singing some great famous folk songs to light up the evening. Having visited the place already, we would like to give you some ideas on how to make your evening, on the hills, even more beautiful.
1. Pack up some nice, light snacks and take some chilled juice, since you may get tired. Dress up in your casuals and don’t forget to wear your shoes since it’s quite a bit of walking there. Girls, put on some nice jhumkas and do some light make-up to feel even beautiful!
2. Carry your guitar or maybe your violin, to sing some nice, soothing and cheery songs. We bet that you will have an amazing feeling singing along with your friends. Why not sing a romantic song to your partner! Well, Sylhet is the best place to show and spread love among dear ones.
3. You may arrange for some nice lanterns and a few hurricane lamps to bright up the place. Make sure that it does not get too late since there may dangerous insects.
4. If you are good at capturing moments, bring a good camera since you don’t get such views that easily!
If you are new to the place, don’t worry! The people there are very kind and hospitable. They will be happily willing to serve you and assist you on the hills. However, if you are a foreigner and you do not understand the local language, make sure you have someone to assist you if you think you will not be able to manage all by yourself. You may even take down notes on the most common sites from the hotel staff.
To taste the flavourful tea of Sylhet, you may visit roadside shops, most of which are known to serve the local tea and the Shaat-Rong-er Cha. It is a special tea that has seven layers. Each of them have a different taste and colour. You will not get to shop exclusive products there but you will see traditional and local products being sold.
